I am keen on developing and improving my knowledge by delving into different experiments whilst also being hands-on. Through the studio 1000 Trades, I have investigated how architecture can respond to the local recycling and also the sustainable of materials. My design called ”Reborn of Silt”. As a Chinese, I thought this project is a good opptunity for sharing cultures, skills and experiences. So I was establishing a new connection between the essence of Digbeth’s manufacturing industries and traditional Chinese arts and crafts base on the existing connection between BCU and China. The main function of the project is allowing students of BCU to learn both the making essence of Digbeth and China, then applying the skills they learned into life. The main recycled material in my project is silt, I was aiming to explore how to reuse it to make rammed earth, then serving the architecture. In addition, alongside the development of my concept, I was combining the ideologies of Suzhou Gardens with the local terraced houses to design the project. I also used recycled materials for building and landscape construction, showing the link between ”before” and ”after” of materials, such as from silt to rammed earth wall.
