Emily is recent Birmingham City University RIBA Part 1 Architecture graduate and was nominated for the women in property 2020 student awards by her course leader, for which she became a regional finalist. She has a keen interest in the climate crisis and the changes designers can implement to create a more sustainable industry.
Her studio project Neo Agri[Culture]s focused on creating a resilient utopian localised food economy, following from her research into the impacts of food and consumption on the environment. The project focuses on local growing, food technologies, circular processes and informal education within the community. Aiming to reunite the community of Moseley through their food. Based of ideas introduced through Carolyn Steeles ‘Sitopia’ book, the project aimed to educate children as a main priority.
The project story telling narrative was introduced and based around characters within the community, most notably Daisy the Cow. How in the year 2051, Daisy is the last remaining Cow in the UK due to overconsumption and greed for red meat. The community of Moseley safeguarded Daisy and cultivated cultured meat from her cells within the hub. However, one day she goes missing… and the dissidents may be responsible.
