I am an ambitious and passionate Architecture student who has worked in practice for several years. I continuously strive to advance my knowledge and skillset and I approach challenges with enthusiasm and dedication. I adapt my process to suit the task at hand by carefully translating my research into unique graphical representations that capture not only the essence of the project but also specific moments and emotions.
This course has provided the opportunity for me to explore different aspects of Architecture including more theoretical and poetic elements such as cultural identity and sense of place (Genius Loci). Fascinated by the idea of Genius Loci, I have focused my final year thesis, Identity Revival, on different aspects of cultural identity and sense of place.
The purpose of my project is to unearth the history and personality of Moseley, a place devoid of purpose and left to decay, creating a new sense of place and a renewed sense of purpose for the local community. Through the redevelopment of the derelict 332- 346 Moseley Road, old metal works and grain factory, the scheme establishes a new citizen’s assembly which doubles as an archive and exhibition space, presenting and preserving the historical remnants of the local area. This building provides a place where the residents of the area can all come together to discuss, plan, present and catalogue their ideas for future civic development, with support from rich historic resources. The idea is that the community can learn from the past, develop ideas collaboratively and implement sensitive strategies that seek to preserve the heritage in a more sustainable manner.
