As a practicing landscape architect and horticulturist, I am passionate about designing exciting, healthy and sustainable places. My areas of interest include landscapes that enhance wellbeing, planting design, contemporary and urban design.
The brief for the Fairbourne module was to reimagine a settlement for the future for a community under threat of rising sea levels. Meeting United Nations sustainable development goals, my solution uniquely exploits the region’s sense of place and the therapeutic qualities of the landscape to restore visitors’ physical and mental health. Taking an ecologically sensitive approach, I have also deployed nature-based interventions to improve resilience to climate change through enhanced biodiversity, flood defences and saltmarsh restoration.
For Willenhall, planting and wayfinding devices were proposed to strengthen the link between the marketplace and the memorial park to encourage physical activity. Following collaboration with peers during the first part of the project, I then devised a construction pack. Here, the detailed planting plans and specifications translate my design principles of connectivity, social inclusion and communication into reality.
