Throughout my studies in BA (Hons) Architecture, I have developed a passion for utilizing design as a means of problem-solving. My focus has often been on understanding the user experience within architecture and exploring how the curation of spaces can profoundly impact individuals.
A significant milestone in my academic journey was winning the design competition for the 2023 ‘Venice Biennale.’ In this project, I delved into conceptual thinking and examined existing ideas surrounding society’s fabric and the urban realm. I documented my findings through the creation of an abstract artefact model, which served as a visual representation of my explorations.
In my final thesis project, titled ‘The Object Cemetery,’ I envisioned a narrative set in the projected year of ‘2050.’ The design concept was situated within the ruins of a derelict former pen factory in ‘New-Town,’ Birmingham. The primary objective of the scheme was to craft a captivating journey that encapsulates the act of depositing an object, highlighting the pervasive problem of attachment to material possessions. By creating a space that serves as an archive and accommodation for this process, my thesis aimed to encourage individuals to disengage from materialism and re-establish meaningful investments in human relationships.
