Biography

Hi all, my name is Ilze and I am completing my Masters in Architecture. Thesis statement: River Rea – currently confined to a brick lined channel far below street level within Highgate area. Writer Harry Reeves refers to it as a “secret river inside its concrete collar”. The culvert acts as solid division between the river and city” but also a place of discharge of pollutants and contaminants. Part of the proposal was to recognize the patterns and conditions of the site and allow implementation of civic life within Highgate. The vision of the project is to open River Rea for interaction with a series of interventions along its channeled route to form a water management and filtration process. Thesis seeks to introduce interventions through plant life and water filtration gardens. The interventions would also provide users and inhabitants with a new point of view towards the surroundings and previously hidden inner culvert life.
