In my final year of architecture, I developed a strong interest in how architecture can create a large social impact and a passion to preserve and conserve culturally significant buildings. This led me to my final year architecture project in which I created an intervention to tackle the unwarranted media narrative of the area Ladywood, Birmingham.
This is an ongoing narrative the local media have pushed for years,
consequently, becoming an opportunity to intervene. My intervention entails conserving the overall envelope of The Tower Ballroom, including an addition of a new roof structure due to the deterioration, lack of investment and care of the maintenance of the building. Keeping the overall envelope in my design was important to remind the people of Ladywood the importance and heritage preserved within the building, preserving the past whilst serving the present. This building would be offering a printing platform of administrative representative hub led by the community, for the community. The objective was to surpass the political distrust within the borough which brought distrust within the community and a lack of representation throughout.
