Hi, I’m Maryam and I am passionate about creating contextual, human-centric architecture. During my final year of BA Architecture, I researched the urban commons- the act of the creation of common space through inventive and collaborative action whereby commoning practices are used to re-claim the city. My enthusiasm for research and love of architectural theory allows me to advance and contextualise my designs. I am interested in developing sustainable models for future living, including the practice of retrofitting and adapting existing buildings. I would like to contribute to projects that are innovative and sustainable and to be able to shape communities through dynamic design.
Project Introduction: El Raval: once, an area with a rich background of textile production- today, detached from its history. It has fallen victim to ‘parquetematizacion’- the becoming of a city into a theme park. Using textiles as commons, the project activates a grounding in tradition that reunites citizen and city. In Semester 1 the effect of gentrification was studied through the balcony which is seen as a space of protest and community. Merging textile production and balcony spirit, No Loose Threads creates a flexible community space ensuring that, in Barcelona, citizens are no longer left behind.
