My name is Michelle, graduating this year from MArch Architecture (RIBA Part 2). I’ve been a member of Extinction Rebellion Architecture the past two years, my thesis statement for the project follows: This thesis project explores how lichens can protect towns and work in harmony with a community and its sustainable systems. The project is situated around an activity hub of skill sharing, socialisation and education within Dudley Highstreet, whilst also bringing comfort and good air quality through lichenisation, Passivhaus and retrofit design. Along with a focus on retrofit and Passivhaus, the external works and landscaping are just as important. The project aims to have a large community presence within Dudley growing fruit and vegetables for consumption and donation to those in need most. Lichen is a natural indicator of pollution and thrives in environments that are natural, have lots of texture and most importantly, have un-polluted air. All proposed buildings offer varying façade materials and contribute to the cultivation, protection and dispersion of species in Dudley.
