About my project – Recubilo
‘Recubilo’ is a swift nesting box made from bending plywood. The capitals of Greco-Roman columns inspired the design. Like the column tops, this swift nest represents a decorative architectural feature that comes as an extension to the eaves. The design builds up of the more traditional nesting square boxes with straight lines and brings a more aesthetically pleasing shape with round and organic curves.
‘Recubilo’ represents a simple design that can be mounted on the wall under the eaves by the house owner. The concept emphasises the connection between humans and nature. Swifts arrive each spring in the UK, and they are mainly dependent on man-made structures to nest. ‘Recubilo’ aims to be an organic man-made nest that can represent a resting place for their period in the UK.
