My name is Naomi Reid! I’m a multi disciplinary artist specialising in printing and textiles. My work revolves around identity, gender, and the importance of the archive. I am a mixed race woman with Irish, Jewish, and Jamaican heritage exploring traditional techniques taught to me by the women in my family (sewing, embroidery and quitlmaking). My practice allows me to unpack my personal feelings that I wasn’t able to explore as a child, such as otherness, racism, and colourism. Whilst allowing me to conmnect with my community! I have taken part in dancehalls, created carnival costumes, and interviewed the great photographer Vanley Burke. My practice will be lifelong but studying at Birmingham City School Of Art has given me the opportunity to explore this persoanl endeavour.
