Birmingham based artist, Amelia Forsyth had been passionate about art from an early age, she studied art throughout GCSE and A Level, achieving grades, A and A*. She further continued this love for art by going on to study an undergraduate Fine Art degree at The Birmingham School of Art, which she has just completed (June 2021). Amelia’s work comes in various forms, from drawing and painting to sculpture and instillation. She specialises in portraits, pet portraits and large-scale murals. She is also known to create landscape paintings, hand-painted saws and custom work. Her work is often large-scale and striking, with strong use of texture, contrast, tones and colour. She is fascinated by topics surrounding the body and mental health, her work typically shining a light on stereotypical ‘imperfections’ and ‘flaws’. Her aim is to address and challenge society’s expectations and perceptions of normality, perfection and beauty. She explores the question “what makes us who we are?” in various ways throughout her work. The mediums she specialises in is acrylic paint, colour pencil and alginate plaster casting. She also does a lot of commissioned work which usually consists of graphite pencil or colour pencil drawings and acrylic paintings.
