Sage’s work conjures feelings of nostalgia and brings forth foggy memories of the past, referencing early naughts pop culture and iconography. Her multi media body of work explores themes of trans identity, fetishisation and self documentation.
She draws on her childhood, specifically the cross section of growing up in an Irish, catholic community and being the only openly transgender child. Through her dolls she represents body’s and people that have traditionally been ignored in the world of children’s toys. There is a heavy emphasis on imagined history and narratives in her body of work, centring herself and people like her as heroes and main characters of traditionally cis-het stories.
