Karina Jassi is a Textile Design graduate from Birmingham City University. Specialising in embroidery, Karina has a passion for creating exquisitely embellished fabrics.
Within the designs, she enjoys using traditional hand techniques, such as goldwork and hand-beading combined with contemporary machinery such as Irish embroidery and Wilcom to produce distinctive outcomes. Karina pushes the notion of being sustainable by creating naturally dyed surfaces as the base of her embroidery.
Her graduate collection named ‘Roots of Remembrance’ celebrates the beauty of medicinal plants. Within the designs, illustrative plant imagery is combined with chemical structures. She intends to generate attention through design, as medicinal plant imagery that can help Dementia sufferers are the focal point of the collection. Therefore, fashion fabrics have been thoughtfully placed on areas such as the brain and spinal cord to build the narrative of the medicinal properties travelling up the body to heal the brain.
