As a designer I focus on womenswear and designing my own prints. I like using art as inspiration for a concept as it gives so many possible interpretations for the end product. The main inspiration for my project; Evolving Perception was Olafur Eliasson’s work as well as his ideas surrounding creating an individual experience and changing people’s perceptions. The concept research focused on his installation work, looking at the way he uses nature and architecture to influence his art. He uses nature to create experiences by using light and water, as well as creating intricate architectural structures. The structural sculpture side to his work led to the discovery of collaborations Eliasson did with other artists and architects. He worked in collaboration with Einarr Thornstein who created structural art involving lots of geometric shapes that were inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic dome. The final print for Evolving Perception was developed to include shapes inspired by Eliasson’s light installations, and to also relate to the structural shapes and architecture that comes through in his collaborations. As well as inspiring the final print, his architectural and structural work had an influence in the oversized shapes designed within the final collection.
