Zidi Gong is a contemporary Jewellery Designer & Artist. She specialises in drawing
inspiration from everyday life and natural observation. Her work focuses on the craft
of making and the use of materials. She is passionate about applying traditional
jewellery techniques to contemporary jewellery design and is constantly exploring
new materials and techniques to push the boundaries of jewellery design.
Her most recent work, Seeds Will Be Grow, was inspired by the disconnect between
people and the food they consume as a result of the current high level of
industrialisation. She has created a series of wearable jewellery and Objects that
combine metals, biomaterials and plant seeds, using high quality and detailed
techniques such as metal weaving, metal folding and enamel to create a highly
delicate collection of pieces. At the same time, she has incorporated a number of
mechanisms into the collection to provide playfulness to the pieces. She draws
curiosity through visual aesthetics and directs attention to the origins of the food we
eat. Inspiring people to think critically about the impact of their food choices on the
environment and to gain a deeper understanding of sustainability.
