Language, as an art form, is deeply versatile and capable of conveying multiple meanings through the interpretation of its words and sentences. The same phrase, when placed in different contexts or read by different people, can carry distinct interpretations. For example, in this series of works I have explored, I chose to interpret the profound maxim “destiny is in one’s own hands” from two unique perspectives. The commonly understood interpretation is that individuals possess the power to shape their own life paths. This viewpoint emphasizes personal choice and effort, stressing that our future is shaped by our decisions and actions. Self-determination plays a crucial role here, as it underscores the empowering notion that each person holds the ability to build their destiny through hard work and resolve. Yet, another fascinating interpretation I encountered is found in the ancient practice of palmistry. According to this tradition, our destiny is literally written on the palms of our hands. In certain cultures, the intricate lines, markings, and shapes on one’s palm are believed to reveal not only the trajectory of one’s life, but also key personality traits and significant life events. This mystical belief reflects the idea that destiny.
