Through a series of jewellery pieces, XINRONG LI showcases the four qualities of “Plum, Orchid, Bamboo and Chrysanthemum” as represented in ancient Chinese poetry. These qualities are expressed through the design of the jewellery, the use of colours and the use of different materials and techniques to express the qualities of perseverances, purity, tenaciousness and nobleness. Her main focus is on communicating design ideas, emotions and feelings to the public and she believes that jewellery making requires innovation, as demonstrated in her work where she is constantly developing designs that combine different materials and metals. Her work is mainly based on the elements of nature, so that people can understand and feel the meaning behind the work as they look at it.
