As an Artist and recent graduate from Birmingham City University’s Textile Fibre Arts Degree. I am passionate about exploring the intersection of traditional textile techniques and contemporary art practices. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a strong foundation in various textile processes, including constructed textiles, print, collage, and embroidery.
My artistic practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of materials and their potential for creating something new, from found and unused mediums, materials, and objects. Through my work, I aim to create tactile and visually engaging pieces that invite viewers to connect with their own experiences and interpretations.
Process being rooted in ‘Play’, preferring to approach my outcomes & sampling through intrinsic motivation. I believe that a strong conceptual foundation is essential for creating meaningful and thought-provoking artwork. Constantly seeking new ways to challenge traditional notions of textile art and push the boundaries of what is possible within the medium.
A self-professed ‘Magpie’ my final major project concept titled M.A.G.P.I.E- Material. Attraction. Gather. Play. Innovate. Evolve.
“MAGPIE is an exploration & celebration of our attraction & natural affinity to be drawn to materials; that are bright, shiny, reflective and or have iridescent qualities.
As an Artist I seek to be resourceful when gathering materials. With a focus on using collected, discarded & preowned objects & mediums.
Inspiration & processes are inspired by the power & agency of our innate nature to play.”
This concept encapsulates my work.
