Chenchen Shen is a contemporary jewellery designer studying Jewellery and Objects courses at Birmingham City University. During her leisure time, her mind was filled with various thoughts from different fields. The experience of her past life and studying curiosity is the main motivation for her energy.
Jewellery design attracts Chenchen because of its creativity, for designers can use a huge range of materials to make jewellery that wears on any body part, providing unlimited possibilities to the designer. For her, the meaning of a designer is to take something abstract that cannot be seen physically and visualize it to the public. In her opinion, jewellery is not only about luxury gemstones and decorations on the human body but also is more significant to express the designer’s thoughts to help people have a deeper connection with the inner logic of the design concepts.
Chenchen likes to explore the connection between tradition and innovation in contemporary jewellery, absorbing a wide range of cultural and social issues.
Through her study experience at BCU, Chenchen is working hard to present wearable pieces to express the reflection of identity, culture and society. She hopes people can have more appreciation for the different aspects of jewellery.
