My textiles journey started when my mum introduced me to various different crafts and encouraged me to purse my own creative Textile passions.
I always wanted to study fashion but couldn’t justify the unsustainable and unethical elements heavily weighted within the industry.
During University I specialised in learning the slow craftmanship of weaving – exploring handlooms, Dobby and Jacquard looms. Meanwhile also taking an interest in naturally dyeing the yarns and fabrics to grow a deeper understanding of the ability of hand crafted processes.
Within my final year of studying I pursued my interest in sustainability and biomaterial processes, which began through weaving threads made from eggshell, and resulted in my ‘Seaweed Squares’ project.
BIO-ACCESS challenges the lack of accessible information and resources for emerging bio-designers across the country. Focussing on the structural, textural and colour possibilities within alginate-based bio-experiments. I believe having access to bio-design recipes, elements and information through an open-source publication will aid aspiring designers in the right direction that the Fashion & Textiles Industry needs
