Isabel Nelson has been making jewellery since she was 14 years old.
She is completing a BA honours degree at Birmingham City University. Previously she has completed a Btec in Jewellery and Silver smithing at Manchester. Studying at the Birmingham School of Jewellery has helped to refine her methodology, design technique, enquiry, and exploration, such as experimenting with illusions. Being an established designer before going to Birmingham, she has found that the study has encouraged her to unlearn what she knew about design and completely relearn a new way being creative.
Isabel’s style could be described as wearable art, she uses big pieces and is influenced by the styles of the early 20th century, using wire and resin to make art nouveau style wings
Isabel has exhibited all over the UK, including the Platform Gallery, Clitheroe, Manchester Craft Centre and the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal. She continues to attend trade fairs including the Great British Trade Fair in Harrogate.
Isabel has taught herself resin techniques, this more experimental style has the label of Qui. The first piece that she displayed under this label was at the Clitheroe Art Gallery in 2016.
Isabel is looking to develop her present work and become more integrated into the Art world.
