Meiying Liu is a contemporary jewellery designer who produces jewellery collections with a powerful message – to raise public awareness of the pre-cancerous symptoms of breast cancer. Her work is inspired by one of her most deeply personal and emotional experiences – her mother’s battle with breast cancer. This experience touched her deeply and prompted her to explore and convey this theme through her art.
In this jewellery collection, she cleverly uses plaster to symbolise the vulnerability of breast cancer. The textures of pre-cancerous breast cancer symptoms are also meticulously displayed in the pieces. These textures not only embellish and enrich the jewellery pieces, but more importantly serve as an educational tool to encourage the wearer and people to learn to recognise the early signs of breast cancer. Through these unique and meaningful designs, she hopes to promote the importance of early detection of breast cancer, raise public awareness of breast cancer, and at the same time show her support and respect for breast cancer patients.
