Ally Lam is a contemporary and fine jewellery designer, her practice aims to reassess and redefine the things you may not have considered, through innovative ways to appreciate ‘beauty’.
‘The Exclusive Flaw’ is Ally’s latest collection inspired by the inclusions found within gemstones. These imperfections are played with so that she can challenge our perceptions of beauty and imperfections. She believes the occurrence of inclusions is the evidence of specific identity and uniqueness of a gemstone as no others will own the same inclusions. Her work is a magnification of gems’ inclusions as the design of the pieces are based on the shape of its assigned gem’s defective part, to give an overview to the public on the appearance of gemstones without being ‘filtered’ from the trade.
Each piece in the collection is designed in mind, so that the wearer can decide how they would like to display the piece on their body. This adds to the unique and interactive nature of work.
