SIYING CHEN

Biography

Siying Chen is a Chinese jewellery designer and maker who graduated in Jewellery and Objects from Birmingham City University.

Siying’s work ‘Bloom Beyond Confinement’ draws inspiration from the Chinese opera ‘The Peony Pavilion’, and evokes her thoughts on the survival of women in society. She use delicate and intricate goldsmithing technique of filigree to express the strength and resilience of women who navigate challenging circumstances in society. This work will hopefully carry the spirit to overcome adversity to become a meaningful reminder that in a world that sometimes tries to silence women, they can be brave enough to assert their rights and flourish and grow even within constricting environments.
