I’m Sophie, a MA Textiles and Surface Design graduate from Birmingham City University. I
have learnt to develop a professional skillset in textiles and surface pattern design. I have had the opportunity to involve my marketing experience along with my digital design skills, enabling me to research further into consumer insights and fashion trend forecasting which I use to influence my designs and colour palettes. My strengths are my digital design skills as well as having a good eye for colour.
During my Master’s, I have gained the skills to observe, organise and self-express. I have evolved my own artistic language and creative ideas. I also enhanced my critical thinking skills in a wider theoretical and social context. Although Covid-19 has put many barriers in place with studies, I have learnt to adapt to the new way of working, and I have jumped at the opportunity to learn new physical printing techniques such as devore and illuminating acid dyes, and gaining a deeper understanding of different natural and synthetic fibres for various printing techniques.
