Urban Intricacy serves to appreciate and celebrate culture by exploring the complexity of identity, in response to a consumer demand to uphold tradition.
The project involves complimenting heritage-inspired elements with juxtaposing urban elements. An unusual fusion that evokes nostalgia.
The project foregrounds how the transformation of traditional-inspired designs in a modern context is crucial. It focuses on the merging of an urban grungy aesthetic derived from Birmingham, integrated with components with an intricate, floral aesthetic, inspired by the East, to create a distinctive style, finding beauty in the worn-down grungy areas of Birmingham and from the textures and graffiti of Birmingham’s gritty neighbourhoods and paying special attention to the composition and symmetry of Eastern aesthetics.
