Zhuoying Chu is a primarily metal designer and maker in jewellery and objects domain, working with precious and non-precious metals. There are main sources of inspiration for her works which could be divided into two categories. One is from personal experience and elements in daily life; the other is cultures related to her educational context, such as poems idioms.
Her designs are not limited to the original appearance of the element, but try to find some of its hidden features. She firmly believes that metal has more potential and plasticity. It is even more fascinating art to mould softness out of a hard substance. The versatility of metalwork commits her researching related techniques. Therefore, the body of most of her works is made of metal.
For static inspiration, her idea is usually a certain feature. When working on narrative design related to personal experiences, she considers what the audience could feel and adds some interactivity to her work. The project present the condition she facing and the reactions. It is not just “what can I feel”, it is also “what can I do to deal “.
