Hi, my name is Edith Chirapa and I am a Product and Furniture Design graduate. I am a designer-maker who is fascinated with creating sustainable products and experimenting with materials that have minimal impact on the environment.
I am interested in the circular design approach and creating alternative sustainable useful products from waste materials. There is no waste in nature and I believe that as a designer I should create designs that influence sustainable consumer choices that help to reduce the negative impact of extraction on the environment.
For this project, I experimented with coffee granule waste and sand and through rigorous testing was able to create my unique recipes for the Kalawa range of biodegradable storage vessels. It is a tough and robust material that is non-porous and has the potential for further exploration.
