As a designer I have always found myself captivated by our innate connection with nature and how, when used strategically within a space, it can determine how we view and interact with it. Hence, with continuous advancements to the modern world, I can’t help but want to keep that bridge between the natural and the technological; between nature and man-made.
Throughout my degree, I have particularly enjoyed exploring volumetric spaces and experimenting with organic forms in contribution to creating a well-thought-out user journey. As a result, I was able to hone both creative and technical skills in order to do just that, and more.
Taking this all into consideration, for my Final Major Project, I have designed The Piece of Peace Mental Health Clinic, with a biophilic design approach based on the 14 Patterns of Biophilic Design, for treatment of intergenerational trauma within the youth/Gen Z/future generation. Its concept deriving from biomorphic patterns found within nature, which resembles the path and journey neurotransmitters take within the brain as a response to trauma.
This project was a response to a new awakening within this generation with the urge for change in overall wellbeing – especially mental health.
