Good day! I’m Joh, a Part 1 Architect and Designer, with a passion for model making and accessible design.
With a history of working within the National Federation for the Blind, and current project focusing on design for dementia, it is evident of my bias towards compassionate architecture. Along with being a long-term ceramic practitioner and workshop technician within the University, I also have a keen interest in English architectural, military and local history.
The work I’m displaying for this event revolves around Black Country and its people, a journey and building all in one. The ‘Memento Centre’ is designed to allow autonomy for people through all the stages of dementia and allow some respite for the families of those affected. This is as part of a drive to keep those living with this debilitating illness in a loving and caring family unit rather than being placed in homes (especially important following the events of recent years). Granting the user a chance to unlock memories and reconnect with themselves, family and friends, in a safe environment and prepare them for the hurdles to come.
