Xiangyi Wang is a Chinese jewellery designer-maker, who graduated from Birmingham City University School of Jewellery BA(Hon) in Jewellery & Objects. She is skilled in using various processes and materials and has a critical design methodology. She’s also good at exploring different metal-smith techniques.
She inspired by the phenomenon which is called ‘Collective Unconsciousness’ and thinks human beings are born with the archetype, just like electronic products with factory settings leaving the factory, or goods with original packaging leaving the store. The settings and labels will be covered but cannot completely eliminate the traces of the archetype.
Xiangyi Wang used labels and express boxes as inspiration, and the appearance of the packaging reflects that humans are viewed as particular commodities at a macro level. The label has sparked the audience’s thinking about human beings being defined as products, and opening the box reveals a different formulaic appearance from the outside. The rich and colorful content inside is surprising, and we sincerely feel that the interaction between prototype and human self-awareness has produced a different kind of us.
